Batuli Tamang, age 85: “I have been unable to see clearly for the last three years. I had always hoped to see the world again, and my dream has come true only because of this camp. I am very happy.”
Case Studies
SrijanaTamang, age 9,suffered a serious burn on her right leg when cooking food for the cow. Her mother put cow dung on it, thinking that the dung of these sacred animals would help the skin heal. But Srijana got an infection and fever. The CDO health worker appropriately disinfected and dressed the wound, gave her a tetanus injection andinitiated antibiotic treatment. Srijana’s mother was given instructions on how to continue the treatment.
The villages targeted by CDO are situated in areas that are difficult to reach by vehicle. Thus, the villagers don’t have easy access to health care. In CDO’s Mobile Health Project, health examinations, health education, and health training are offered on site to the people. Furthermore, the training of local village health workers assures that the population will have competent contact persons in the case of need.
